The market has witnessed a shift in consumer behaviors with a major concern focus on the use of plastic. Emphasizing on the importance of sustainability is yet another impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer behaviors. Following an online consumer survey conducted by SIG Combibloc Obeikan in the UAE, 66% of UAE consumers give extreme important to protect the environment. 75% of UAE consumers reduce usage of single plastic bottles and finally 60% of UAE consumers prefer paper straw instead of plastic where possible.

96% of the overall still bottled water market is packed in plastic bottles today. Recording 9% CAGR (20192024), alternative packaging is gaining traction vs PET at a 6% CAGR. We can expect growing potential and possibilities of packaged water.

In recent years, the demand for nearwater beverages has grown exponentially. So much so, in fact, that the category’s CAGR (annual growth rate) is set to rise 9.5% from 20172023. In addition to a rising demand for healthy beverages like ice tea, flavored drinks and water and plant-based dairy alternatives, consumers are focusing more and more on taste profiles when it comes to sauces, soups and dressings and have been experiencing a rising preference for home cooking.
